1. Introduction

Tagged Characters is the most efficient way to play a second class in Black Desert!
  • Tagging a character to use the Tag Character system is incredibly easy to do
  • While Tagging can sometimes be expensive, it will only ever be a small % of your gears real value
  • Tagged characters can travel together and share a location within the world
  • When one Tagged character gains exp from grinding, the other can receive it too

2. Requirements and Restrictions

To be able to unlock the Tag character feature you must first have a character that is level 56.

You must also have completed the quest "Marni's Suspicious Device.” which can be found in the suggested quest tab (O)

You shouldn't have any difficulty running through the quest line, its quite short and simple.

The only annoyance with the quest you might have is the small puzzle, just re-arrange the items in the following order:

The image is of Splashing Point which you'll be asked during the questline as well.

3. Benefits of a Tagged Character

While the biggest benefit of a Tag character will always be the ability to share gear between two classes, the tagging does have some other benefits.

With sharing a location on the map, a lot of players like to run a PvE based character and tag a character more PvP focused.

This was used a lot for open world PvP duels. Switching to another character will also save time on things like EXP scrolls and buffs, should you be worried about those.

But it's important to note, switching from one Tagged character to another will place your Emergency Escape (V) on cooldown.

Tagging is also a great alternate way to levelling a new class on release, without playing Season servers, since you're able to test the class at you're main's current gear level.

4. Restrictions of a Tagged Character

Tagging is a great system for playing a second class, but there are some restrictions that some people might find off putting.

Switching characters without returning to the character select screen will also trigger Emergancy Tag, which will consume your (V) cooldown.

Right clicking on the Tag character icon can also activate the Emergancy Tag.

You can still character swap character again using the Disconnect stream or the character select screen, you just can't use the emergency tag.

A lot of the restrictions to Tag characters are common sense, like you can't tag while in the following:
Red Battlefield, Arena of Arsha, Battle Arena, Savage Rift, Horse Race, Node or Conquest War, Altar of Blood, Pit of the Undying.

These are all instanced or PvP based content but you also can't tag in the Valencia Desert or while in the Great Ocean.

5. How to Tag a Character

Actually tagging a character is very easy once you've done the required quest "Marni's Suspicious Device.

Like with the previously mentioned emergancy tag, you can access the tag character from the UI in the top left of the screen by left clicking the Tag icon.

This will bring up the Tag character window. Just make sure you're in the same city, as you can tell the images above I used Heidel.

Simply select a character that you want to tag alongside your currently played character to link the two characters together.

Once you're ready, click the tag button. You'll then be given the option to use the Item Copy feature.

6. How to Copy Gear to a Tagged Character

Like mentioned above, once you've tagged a character you'll be given the option to select the "Item Copy" feature from the Tag character UI.

You'll then be told how many Marni's Unstable Fuel you'll need in order to copy over your gear.

Marni's Unstable Fuel costs 10 million silver each and can be purchased from the Old Moon Manager in major cities.

The Item Copy UI will tell you exactly how much you need to copy over your gear. There was recently an update that changed and lowered the cost of tagging your characters.

Changes
Marni's Unstable Fuel The amount of Marni's Unstable Fuel needed has been reduced to 1/10 of the previous amount.
Caphras Stone Silver Valuation The Silver cost per Caphras Stone enhancement has been lowered.
Minimum Copy Cost The minimum amount of Marni's Unstable Fuel required is now half of the previous amount.

Here is how the changes look in terms of formula, which makes tagging different characters much more cost friendly than before:

Item Copy Cost
Before After
1.5% of the Central Market price for each main, sub, and awakening weapon
21,500 Silver per Caphras Stone enhancement
Minimum Marni's Unstable Fuel:
20
0.15% of the Central Market price for each main, sub, and awakening weapon
2,000 Silver per Caphras Stone enhancement
Minimum Marni's Unstable Fuel:
10

If one of the items you're trying to copy is glowing red, you won't be able to copy the item over. Usually this is just because of durability not being maxed.

There are some restrictions to items, like Seasonal equipment, spirit stones, questline gear, Naru gear, and rented equipment which all can't be copied.

Converted Tuvala armor can be copied, but the weapons can't but most common gear will be fine.

You can also use the Single Copy feature to copy additional items, usually used for a DR or Evasion set, additional accessories or Kutum / Nouver offhands.

This method uses Marni's Processed Fuel  which is a cash shop item that is ocassionally given out through rewards and events.

It's important to note that if you select the "" button then the copied items will be destroyed.

Tagging characters is restricted to two characters only, which means Item copying can only be done with one character.

7. Exp Sharing

Another added benefit to Tagged characters is that they also have the ability to share EXP with one another. If one character has been grinding for EXP, the other can receive it too.

Only standard characters can receive EXP in this way, Season characters can't be tagged.

By opening the Tag character window you'll be able to see a button to have the Tagged character receive EXP, meaning you can effectively level both characters at the same time.

The transferred EXP will take into account any EXP buffs that were used by the character who was grinding, such as Mercenary's Experience scrolls.

Buffing the Tagged character will not result in a higher EXP gain, only the buffs on the character that is grinding will be considered.

Only levelling EXP earned through grinding and Life skills can be shared this way.

Life Skill EXP however will not be transferred to the tag character, meaning you won't be able to level up a profession such as Gathering on one character and then pass over that EXP to the tagged character.

You will however still receive EXP towards standard level ups from Life skills.

Skill EXP earned through grinding will also be transferred, and as with Combat Exp, will take buffs into consideration.

8. Travel Seperately

Now Tagged Characters can travel seperately to one another. Previously Tagged Characters would share space in the world and would remain connected to one another.

Changing characters would have you be in the exact same location. After a recent update, you can now toggle this feature in the Tag Characters window.
